September 2007

Ok, so just a quick update for the end of September.

Lindsay and I went to the Hendrick Gable clinic at Royal Farms last week. It was great to get out and be on a road trip with Lance and Fred. They both did super. Thanks to Shelia and Hendrick for a wonderful couple of days.

Greg and I have been working with the video camera so here’s a link to you tube with Lance and Tom from June 2007, Ottawa CDI. This is Lance’s first show ever and he was Third Level Champion. This was his 72% test.

Once I play with this for a little while longer, I’ll get more videos up!

I rearranged my day on Friday, squished everything into the am, and made it down to Red Deer for the Championships. What a super afternoon in the sun! The weather has been great this weekend and the show is going on all in fantastic form! The rings look great and once again the show committee has done a wonderful job. Congratulations to PAADA for once again doing such great organizational job!

Angie is riding Wind Walker Third Level. Walker now has a new owner and Kim is looking forward to 2008 show season. What a wonderful job Angie has done with Walker. She sure has brought out the best in this 6 yr old gelding. Kim and Walker have an exciting future ahead. Thanks Angie.

William is turning out to be the FCS star of the show. He did two classes this show. 3 yr old Materiale. I had to get him up from a big snooze, flat out in his stall. We tacked him up and he went for a walk around the show grounds. Ang took him into the warmup ring and toodled him around walk, trot, and canter both ways. We then waited to go into the ring. He patiently stood there, looking around, waiting for Ang to tell him what to do next. Then in the ring they went! He did his job, walk, trot, and canter. Round and round, steady, expressive, athletically. What a wonderful young stallion!!! He is a horse for the future. 79.8% As his trot develops, his marks will be higher. He has an 8 walk and a 9 canter. What an exciting prospect for FCS and Angie. William is out of Bardot (Bismark (Bolero)) and by Warkanson (Warkant X Espri). He’ll go home with Angie and get a well deserved month of turnout, then back to FCS for the winters training. I guess William will have a stall for the winter! He’s been an outdoor horse since birth. Better order him a stall name plate.

September has been busy and it’s not even the 15th yet!!

I had a great day at Spruce Meadow with Ute. We were watching Woody, with Lisa Carlton, in the 1.4 meter class. Woody is bred by Ute and Gerrit Brinkman, Equiptop Farms. He is by their stallion Widukind, out of a Godewin mare. Saturday they had the amazing experience of watching their “homebred” gelding come though the clock tower entrance at Spruce!!! What a thrill for the whole family!! Woody was a good boy and now is enjoying a well deserved break in the front grass paddock at Equitop.

This weekend is the Championships in Red Deer. Only 2 horses going, William and Walker with Angie Golley. They are very ready for the show and yesterday was a good day for both of them. Kim is there to watch her new horse Walker head into the ring at Third Level. Kim and Walker will be a super pair next year. Baby William will do the 3 yr old Materiale class on Thursday (72%) and today. I’ll pile on the work this am to get to Red Deer for the first ride!

Lance and Fred will head to a clinic with Hendrick Gable. It’ll be good to get out with Lance. I’m so glad to have him home, am having so much fun with my horse!!

Next weekend is a trip to the mountains with the family. Aleks and Neil won’t be able to make it…Phoenix is just so far away! Then we all head into wedding week! Mom and Dad are arriving from Thunder Bay. Sooo much fun! Aleks and Neil have everything so planned; we basically just need to show up!!

August 2007

Flying Colours had a great show at Whitemud, Aug 2007!

Vaultara with Angie Golley, at her first real show, brought home 4 red ribbons, First Level Open, 67-68%. Such a wonderful 6yr old mare, great temperament, good mover. She is for sale and will head over to Gorsline’s for some jumper experience starting Friday. We have a yearling filly out of her by Warkanson. Watch for baby Sidy in the ring in the next couple of years!!

William, our 3 yr old stud colt (Warkanson X Bardot), with Angie Golley, was a super star. 72% in the 3yr old Materiale class and won a Training Level Open test as well. William will be Angie’s future project and what a great prospect!

Wind Walker, (Warkanson X Feja) our 6yr old gelding, with Angie riding him for this show and the Championships, did amazing at Third Level. Angie has had this wonderful gelding for 3 yrs and shown each year her expertise by winning again and again as she has brought him up the levels. 68%+, red ribbons at Third Level Open. Walker has a new last name. His new owner Kim Aasman is looking forward to a wonderful winter of training and getting to know this amazing horse. Kim and Walker will be a team for 2008. Congrats to Kim and to Walker, a great new partnership.

Angie also rode Fargo PSG and Inter One. She also brought 3 students and found time to coach this weekend. Angie is such great rider and super coach. She is part of the up and coming good bits of dressage in Alberta. Thank you Angie, for all your hard work and dedication. It shows in sooo many ways!!! As the judge told her this weekend “You can ride!” And don’t we know it!!!

Billie with Barb Stroh had a good weekend! First time debut for First Level. You go girl!! Barb anchored the team by staying in the motorhome with Katie on site. Thanks Barb!

Odin, Barb Ganske’s Dutch Warmblood, with Lindsey Stroh did amazing at Second Level Open. Red ribbons in every class ridden. 68%+ Odin was great and handled everything so well. Barb got to see the Friday classes and then she headed off to Germany for a week. She would have been cheering Odin and Lindsey from 30,000 feet on Saturday! This winter’s work will be exciting with Odin and Barb and Lindsey!

Fadora or Fred as we know her, with Lindsey Stroh, had a most amazing show! We warmed her up at First Level and then headed in to the FEI 5 yr old classes. She won the 5 yr old classes with the highlight on Sunday in the Finale. 79.6% The judge’s comments, along with the 8s, included “this pair should be a role model for your area”. Fred is an amazing mare and Lindsey rides to get the best Fred can offer. What a pair! On to flying changes and the 6yr old for 2008! What an exciting winter ahead!

Katie Mitran was my right hand and groomed for the weekend as well as rode Wild Flower. Flower needed some time off the farm to school and she did very well. This is a team for 2008. Great fun for winter’s training! Thanks Katie for all the hard work and organizing!

Streudel also came along. Carol rode him each day and the work was great. Good to get him out this year. Yeah Streud and Carol!

I brought Lance and rode him as well. Couldn’t see coaching and showing at this show so he came to school.

Thanks to EAADA for a well run, super friendly show!

What a super weekend. We had a great time, lots of laughs, lots of good work, lots of ribbons. Thanks to the crew at home, Jennifer Parslow and to my son Greg. I really appreciate your hard work in getting us to the show and back home!!!! And now to the unpacking and laundry!!!
