September 2004
Alberta Provincial Championships
Once again, Flying Colours Stables had a great show.
Ok, there are all our ribbons.
Here are the extras from the show!
We retired Lindsey Stroh’s Grand Prix horse, Paddy, at a tearful ceremony on Saturday evening of the show. As a 16 yr old horse and 10 years in the FEI ring, he is now having a well deserved retirement looking after the baby boys, Wyatt and William. With lots of room to roam around and explore each blade of grass, two little ones to boss around, plenty of hay and oats, and a nice big straw-filled shelter, he is one big contented gelding. I think Wyatt thinks Paddy is just a big umbrella!
Lindsey and her mom, Barb, won the Mother/Daughter Championship cooler. Lindsey and Barb are very deserving of this win. Not only did they get great marks, Lindsey on Paddy at Grand Prix and Barb on Koriander at Training Level, they are the model Mother/Daughter duo. Lindsey works for her mother in Barb’s consulting business during the day and when they head to the barn, Lindsey is then her mom’s full time riding coach. Look for them to defend their title next year on Kori and Lindsey’s new mare Edel.
Katie Mitran on Zepher and Cindy Stevenson on Hannah won Reserve Champion Mother/Daughter. They won a wonderful day sheet donated by Mark Statler. Katie and Cindy have ridden together always, riding dressage together is a new thing this year. They are eventing converts! I still hear the occasional description of some awesomely scary jump that Katie is planning to take with Raz! I guess you can take the girl out of eventing but you can’t totally take eventing out of the girl!
And I believe the best award of the weekend was the "Fashion Award" Carol Robinson won for the totally awesome job her groom (and my barn manager!) Reiden Maygard did on Monty and Streudel’s turnout for the freestyles! Stars and glitter! I guess having a Rodeo queen as a groom is a big advantage.
All and all the championships were great. They were sooooo well run. 3 rings, FEI judges, and a dog costume class! Well done PAADA, you deserve a round of applause for a job well done!!!
We all had a great time and it was a super end to a wonderful show season at Flying Colours. We are looking forward to a great winter of work, heading our horses up a level, and making 2005 another super season!
Tom Dvorak will be at Flying Colours Stables
He is at FCS every 6 to 7 weeks to keep us sharp!!!!
After a very successful show in Devon PA last week, Tom will be heading out to Alberta for a two day riding clinic at FCS.
Tom took the Intermediare I in Devon on Beaumarchais with 70.083 percent. He also was a star with Fortissimo at Fourth Level with 70.116 and second in the Prix St. Georges with West Side Lady with 70.750. All three of these super horses have been with Tom since age 3. Canada will have some very exciting horses in the Grand Prix ring under the expert training of Tom Dvorak in the near future.
