September at Flying Colours
September is such a great month, super weather, the leaves on the trees changing colour and no bugs!!
I hope everyone noticed the lack of a fly problem in the barn this fall. We went with a very low tech solution to the fly problem and installed screens on all the barn doors. The horses were so much more comfortable in their boxes not having to swat flies all night long. Thanks to Byron and Ryan for all their expertise. Next year I hope to have a screen system for the arena as well.
We’ve been getting the stable ready for winter. It’s a big job - from moving horse paddocks, to redoing stall mats, to sealing the arena. We still have a "to do" list as long as my arm. Thanks to Reiden and Janet for all their hard work. I couldn’t do it without them.
This is the time to have next season’s tests ready. We will then have several months to fine tune the tests. We normally have a schooling show each month. As we have several events planned for the weekends in October and November, we will start the "practice sessions for tests" in December and then each month from then into 2004.
Tom’s dates have
Make sure to mark those dates on your calendar. It will be a great time to watch some great horses and riders "sweatin' with the oldies". (Sorry Tom!) We should have Tom’s dates confirmed for 2004 soon.
The following is a tentative schedule for October 23 & 24. Some changes do occur...for conformation of specific rider's times daily, call the stable...780-352-0007.
Thursday, October 23:
Friday, October 24
Sounds like we need to plan for the Flying Colours nursery for 2004.
Don’t let anyone tell Reiden, she’s the best barn manager ever, but allergic to babies and I want to keep her around here! Carol and Ed Robinson are expecting their second baby end of November. Ryan and Dara Talsma are expecting their first baby in February.
Congratulations to both families!
A great time was had by all at the FCS Barbeque.
Here’s Patti’s great recipe...
BURNT GRAPES
** Wash and towel dry grapes or it will dilute the sauce **
1. Combine the following ingredients:
2. Slice in half about 2 - 3 lbs (total) of seedless red and
green grapes.
3. Pour sauce over sliced grapes, toss until well coated.
Transfer to a glass serving bowl and LEAVE OVERNIGHT. (Can use 9 x 13
glass pan as well.)
4. (next day)... Bring to boil:
Cook only until bubbling, stirring continuously - then drizzle over the grapes.
Chill and refrigerate until serving time.
