June 2006

Ok, June has been soooo busy, I haven’t updated the news to the site from FCS! May was showing in Red Deer. First show of the season, most horses looked like deer in the headlights, especially in the indoor arena! We all survived; lots of ribbons and smiles all weekend.

The beginning of June, we left for the Thunderbird show in Vancouver. We took 8 horses on a drive through the Rockies. Bruce Hickling took 4 and Lindsey and I took the other 4. A big thanks to Bruce, who took his time; waited and explained all the details of the big up and down hills along the drive. He taught me things about my truck and hauling I never would have discovered on my own. I LOVE my truck!!! 2005, 1 ton, Chevy Duramax diesel. We stopped and watered the horses at a wonderful natural spring just west of Jasper. They all loved it, especially Freddie! She is such a wonderful traveler. Splashed in her water and watched out the window at the great scenery. The show was a good experience for everyone. Lots of ribbons again, some great marks, some “9’s”, and fun time all weekend. We stayed in the “rock star bus” thanks again to Jeff and Katie. Everyone flying in and out, found Abbotsford airport very convenient and close. The drive home was in the rain but warm enough to be very comfortable. The horses all traveled very well.

Back at home, we are all getting ready to head out to Saskatoon July 6 to 9th. Another fun weekend with our horses and dressage!!

Congrats to Barb Ganske and her new horse, Odin. She found Odin in Ontario. Second level, working Third level. Such a lovely boy. He’s 10 yrs old, Dutch, and has some genetics similar to Grace. This is a great pair. Congrats again Barb!

Grace is in foal with Freddie’s baby. Today we get her checked for the 90 day ultrasound. Soooo exciting. The foal will be Florestan/Matador; Rubinstein/Donnerhall; Warkant/Espri. With Grace’s temperament to raise this foal, I’m sooo excited about the prospect!

I think the big news for me this month has to be that Lance is finally at Flying Colours. Lance is my new horse. I purchased him in March 2006 in Wellington Florida. He has been with Tom Dvorak this spring. He is more than I imagined in everyway. He has the most amazing temperament, gaits, and presence. Tom keeps telling me he’s the “perfect” horse. Now if I can just figure out how to be the perfect rider and trainer. No pressure from Tom either. He keeps telling me he’ll take him back anytime. Ugh!!! Steep learning curve ahead. We’ll get some pictures of Lance up soon.

July 29 is the FCS barbeque. We’ll be riding tests and sipping cool ones. Watch for the details on the interesting judges for day. Call for test times.
