July 2006
We’ve had such an interesting month.
The first week we were in Saskatoon for Ebon Stables’ National Dressage show. They did a great job! The stabling was fantastic, big safe stalls; the footing in all 3 rings was excellent; (I felt like we were at home!) rubber in the first ring and well tended sand rings for the last two. The show secretary was a star. She accommodated us and our requests with a smile and an okay!
The drive was mostly uneventful till the way home and we had one truck with mechanical trouble. We moved some horses around and Katie and Lindsey had a Provost evening at a truck stop till we got another truck out to pick up Zepher. Everyone got home safe and sound, though a little more tired that we had planned.
We had 11 horses at the show and brought home lots of ribbons and championships. Congrats to everyone for an excellent show. Lance and Freddie were the babies we brought for the show experience and they were stars! It was Ann’s first show on Rocky and they did us proud!
Angie was in Oregon for the third week of July. She took Fargo (PSG & Inter 1) and Wind Walker (Second Level, FEI 5 yr old). The heat was unbelievable! 47C one day. Misting fans and a cooling tent for the horses. Both horses did well. Fargo won a PSG at the beginning of the weekend. Walker kept up his energy till the last day! 68%, 66% at Second Level, 2nd and 3rds. A great showing for a five year old. A reminder…Walker is for sale. He’s going super at Second level, has clean xrays, and good changes. Third level next year will be totally attainable. Flying Colours will have more horses to this show next year. The facility is excellent and the show well run.
We don’t have a major show now till the end of August so we are taking the luxury of adding schooling to the summer schedule. Normally we are in show mode schooling all summer and find it difficult to schedule the fine tuning of seat, leg, hands that we are doing this month.
We had our summer ride day and BBQ on Saturday. FCS had a great day of freestyles, good friends, some new dressage initiates, and great food. Everyone had a good time watching or riding, or both; dressage to music. Because of the rain, we brought the party and rides inside. It kept the spectators dry and the most especially the guy (Ivars) barbequing! Our horses enjoyed the extra tidbits from the BBQ. Lance especially loves melon. (I think Lance’ll eat just about anything.)
Because of the rain, everything was moved inside.
We had guests that had never be exposed to dressage and found that a full afternoon
of listening to dressage being coached then demoed was a great way to spend an afternoon!
The coaching explained some of the details to be watched and then the rider demonstrated in the freestyle.
We had some very interesting freestyles. I’m sure Billie is still trying to live down the hairstyle Katie and Jen subjected him to!
Wild Flower is going the Amberlea show this weekend. We have her entered in the Canadian Warmblood Futurity on Saturday. She and Leslie are becoming quite the team. It is very satisfying to watch your young horses doing so well with great riders! They are also entered in the Equitop Farms award for Best of Get of Sire. Flower is by Warkanson from Equitop Farms.
Looking forward to August!
