July 2005

End of July 2005

Wahoo!!! Another great show for Flying Colours this weekend.

We had a great time at the Kestrel Ridge show in Calgary. 10 horses, riders, owners, coaches, kids and dogs. We took the farm on the road!

Billie
Elizabeth and Lorano, and Barb Stroh and Billi were our AA reps at Training level. Lots of red and blue ribbons, most marks over 65%, and one totally fun, unscripted freestyle! You worked hard to get here and it showed. Way to go, you did us proud!

Angie and Pat Sullivan's gelding, Watson (Beluga X Warkanson) were again Training Level Champions. 72% and 73%. Wonderful horse, great riding Ang, congrats Pat! All those big ribbons on the wall!

Angie, riding my 4 yr old gelding Walker (Feja X Warkanson), were First Level Champions for the show. Great marks over 65%. Thanks for the super riding Ang! A horse for the future for sure.

Leslie Comis and her gelding Magnum did so well, one 68%, and ended up Reserve champion at Second Level. Magnum is really learning what his job is in the ring. Way to go Les and Maggie!

Carol rode Monty to Fourth Level Champion!! She and Monty rode a 70% freestyle! What great work! Those many early morning lessons are proving themselves in the ring. I'm so proud of you both! Carol also rode Streudel for his first Third Level tests. Ribboned each class. He'll be ready for Provincials, look out Grace!

Angie and Fargo were once again Advanced Level Champions. They once again took our breath away in his freestyle! Ang can really hit the marks in her freestyle, riding on the edge and risking everything. Great riding Ang!

Grace was not quite right in the footing so I scratched her from the show. I'll have her sorted out by Amberlea, for sure!

Thanks to Brenda and Reiden for the super job they do at grooms position. Couldn't do this all without them! Thanks to Lindsey Stroh for all her help as the roamer coach. Makes my job so much easier knowing everyone will be taken care of for each test.

It was a great weekend. With both the fifth wheel and motorhome at the site, the food was great, the company wonderful and the horses easily taken care of each morning.

Mid July

Ok, we had a great show!!! We took 8 horses to Calgary, 7 to show in the ring and Magnum with Leslie Comis to train at the grounds. Magnum and Les were the stars of the warm up ring this show!

Everyone came home with ribbons. Here's the lowdown on our results.

Wildflower
This was her first show, with Angie Golley, from Ponoka, riding her.

This is my 3 yr old filly, out of Feja, my Grand Prix mare by the Hannoverian stallion, Warkanson. She is a Canadian born and bred, registered, Canadian Warmblood. She ribboned at Training Level with over 61% and in the 3 yr old Material Class she received a 77%. Way to go little Flower Girl!!!

Flower got a new sparkly purple brow band for next show. It even came with a matching necklace for Angie.

Wind Walker
Walker is Flower's 4 yr old full brother, Feja X Warkanson.

Walker, with Angie Golley's expertise received over 65% First Level. He was Reserve Champion First Level for the show. We also had him entered in the 4yr old Materiale Class, 76%.

I'm so proud of Angie and Walker. This is a gelding with a great future.

Watson
Angie was a very busy girl and rode Pat Sullivan's (Regina) 6 yr old gelding Watson to the Training Level Championship of the show.

Top mark for Watson was over 67%. Watson is also a Canadian Warmblood, bred by Ute and Gerrit Brinkmann of Equitop Farms. Watson is out of Beluga by Warkanson. Equitop Farms is where Warkanson stands in New Norway Alberta.

Warkanson, as a young dressage sire, was wonderfully represented this weekend, First Level and Training Level.

Lorano
Elizabeth Lythgoe, from Red Deer, rode her wonderful 6 yr old Westphalian gelding, Lorano, at Training Level. She came home with a test over 60% and ribbons for each class.

This was Elizabeth and Lorano's first show together and they both did super. A wonderful pair, heading to Provincials.

Millennium
Carol and 3 yr old Claire Robinson had a great mom/daughter/horse weekend in Calgary.

Monty is Carol's Fourth Level/PSG 10 yr old Westphalian gelding. Carol had to share Monty's reins with Claire after each ride. Watch out mom, you will need to share some of those ribbons very shortly!

Angelina Ballerina
Claire Robinson acquired a new mount this weekend. Angelina Ballerina is of unknown registry, pink and sparkly in colour, and eats just like the big horses. I must say though, her stall is very easy to clean each morning and she is very quiet.

Claire only got bucked off once all weekend.

Gracia
Grace is my 7 yr old Canadian Warmblood mare. She and I followed up from the Thunderbird show, Langley BC, in June, and were Third Level Champions again at this show.

I was so pleased with the way she handled the footing and excitement and the mosquitoes. She is a very good girl. I soooo enjoy her!!!! Her top mark at the show was over 64%.

Cody Carson (Calgary), who started Grace and rode her Basic One and Two, was at the show. I finally got to personally thank her for the great job she did in starting this wonderful mare. It sure makes my rides easier each day!

Fargo
Angie and Fargo worked hard for the weekend as well.

They were Advanced Level Champions. Not bad follow up from his Ponoka Stampede Parade appearance on Thursday! His 17' 2", grey presence makes a big impression amongst all the cowboys at the Stampede.

Top Trainer Award
After all the wonderful plaques (they even light up) and ribbons, I also have a beautiful jacket with Top Trainer embroidered on the front. Boy, oh boy!!! What a weekend!!!

Thanks to the show committee for all their hard work. A special thanks to Jenny Simpson for the amazing job she did in putting this show together!

We're headed back to Kestrel Ridge Farms for their show July 21 - 24. We're taking a couple more horses and riders than last show. That'll sure add to the fun! Happy riding, Vickie

Upcoming at Flying Colours

Dressage Test Rehearsal each weekend except for when we are away at shows. 2 outdoor rings and the indoor. The footing is great in all three.

Unique training opportunity!!!

Tom Dvorak will be at Flying Colours in August.

Thursday and Friday, August 11 and 12, Olympian Tom Dvorak will be at FCS to fine tune our tests for 2005. Tom’s busy show schedule does not normally allow much time away from his own stable in the height of the season. We are very lucky to have this opportunity again this year, to work with Tom during show season. Any questions re ride times or format, call the stable. 780.352.0007
