December 2006

Well…

I have been so lax in update the news from FCS. We have had a very busy fall. As all businesses in Alberta, we were short staffed. Ugh…..Reiden and I have worked very long and hard since mid September. All our university students went back to work and it was just us to hold up the fort. Neither one of us can buy normal shirts; our biceps won’t fit in the sleeves!

Welcome to our new staff as of October; Niki and Linda and Hillary and Brittany on the weekends. Thanks to Jenny and Reiden for putting up with a tough fall.

Congratulations to Reiden and Dave. They have bought a farm in Saskatchewan. They will be moving in the spring. This is a great opportunity for young farmers to get a good start on their future. I will miss Reiden terribly; she has been a big part of FCS for the last 8+ years.

This is a step up and out for her and I wish her all the best for a very wonderful future. She is such a competent young woman, I sure anything she will tackle in the future will be successful and meaningful. She will have some great tasting lamb available in the spring.

Congrats to Carol and Ed on the birth of their third child, William George in October. She is already back in the saddle, juggling her many jobs and fitting her riding in as well. Remarkable at all levels!

In October we retired Monty. He is out in a paddock, keeping an eye on the farm with Paddy.

Angie has been on an adventure with Walker and Fargo. She and her dad and the horses left for Dvorak’s in Toronto in November. The trip across Canada was relatively uneventful. A stop in Portage for the snow and overnight in Thunder Bay. She is doing great at Tom’s and will be home for a couple of days at Christmas. She will be back at the end of January.

Fred and Lance are going super. Tom was in Alberta twice in November, at Horizons in Cochrane and FCS. Thanks to Sheri for fitting us in in Calgary. The next weekend he was back here. Linds and I got 4 lessons in one month, a great way to push on the training.

Both horses are headed to Florida for the season (once we hear the rhino outbreak has been contained!!!!). They are booked on a truck to Toronto to Tom’s on January 8. If we don’t make it to Florida, they will work with Tom in Toronto for a while.

I am keeping my fingers crossed this outbreak will be under control before Tom’s planned time to leave for Florida. (end of January) Lindsay is planning to spend the season in Florida full time. She’ll show Fred FEI 5yr old class. Lance will go as well but I can’t be there full time so Tom will show him Third Level. I’ve booked tickets to head down and ride in March. Hopefully these plans will all work out. We should know more in January.

Vaultara’s filly is still a star. Watch for Sid in three yrs….she is remarkable.

All our horses are going along wonderfully. Everyday is so much fun, great horses and super clients and now that we have extra staff, great days at work!!!!

Merry Christmas to everyone and my very best wishes for a wonderful 2007.
